Commander Martin Nielsen called the monthly meeting to order on Tuesday, June 19, 2006 at 7:00 PM. Following the opening, officers and committee chairmen made their regular reports.
Joe Petsche submitted his resignation as 3rd Vice Commander. He was then nominated and elected to the vacant position of 2nd Vice Commander. Nominations were opened for the now vacant position of 3rd Vice Commander. No nominations were received. If you are interested in being considered for this position, please attend the next regular meeting.
Commander Nielsen announced that Fred Sidebottom would continue as chairman of the Clubroom Committee for the coming year. He also named Howard Haworth, Fred Sidebottom, and Art Lubben as the Audit Committee.
Commander – Martin Nielsen
The new-year has started and there is lot of work to do. Independence Day at Grape Day Park is just around the corner and it will be a long but fun day. We will have another planning meeting Sunday July 2nd at 12 noon. We have committees to fill for the coming year, finance, building, By-Laws and clubroom, just to name a few. If you have some time, please, please jump in there and help out. Joe Petsche has moved up to Second Vice, so we will need a “Third Vice” to work children and youth. We’re off to Fresno for convention, next year convention will be back in Palm Springs. As we get any new word, we’ll get it out. Rumors! They run wild at the bar, let’s stop, enough said! If you have questions or concerns, ask me, I will give the straight poop.
1st Vice Commander – Rene Cortez
We welcomed 10 new members to our Post this month. Our membership is just over 1050 at this time leaving us less then 100 short of our goal for the year.
Jr. Past Commander – Art Lubben
The schedule for the Post Officers/Past Commanders breakfasts for the coming year has been posted on the bulletin board in the hallway outside the Clubroom. Please check the schedule and if you cannot carry out your duties on the scheduled date, please arrange to swap with someone else on the list.
Fireworks – Martin Nielsen
The plan is coming together; we’ll need your help to work the food booths on the 4th. Contact myself of Linda Lopez to sign up. We have spent some extra money on 4th of July supplies and replacing worn out flags and tables that we use for the 4th and thought out the years. Joe Watt and I will be buying the food so come on by and help out.

American Legion Auxiliary

President – Linda k. Lopez
Congratulations to all the newly elected officers of both the American Legion Post 149 and the Auxiliary Unit 149. I am very proud to be your President this year, and thank all the Auxiliary members for their faith and support. I will do my utmost to fulfill my duties as President of this Auxiliary, and am looking forward to a stellar year.
I would be remiss if I didn’t extend a big ‘THANK YOU’ to Irene Gustafson for the wonderful job she has done as President these past two (2) years.
Poppy month was a success this year thanks to all of you who graciously donated. We surpassed last year’s donations. The Mayor handed out certificates to the Poppy Poster contest winners on May 10th at the Escondido City Hall Council Chambers.
June gloom is upon us, the convention was June 22 – 25, and 4th of July is around the corner, it will be here and gone before you know it or before you get this newsletter. The Auxiliary will be helping the Post at the July 4th festivities at Grape Day Park by selling light bright necklaces, hats, magnets, etc and food. Come join the fun.
I am looking forward to working with our new Cmdr. Marty Nielsen and Post 149. He has some great new ideas for this coming year. I am especially excited to be working with all the ladies in the Auxiliary and know that Cmdr. Marty Nielsen and I can count on them to help make this year successful.
Have a Safe 4th of July, Remember the Red, White, and Blue, and may God Bless.

God has been good. We haven’t had to drape the charter in quite some time. I hope everyone keeps well.
I want to thank Irene for all her help and patience with me this past year. Good luck Irene and may Gods grace shine on you in the coming year. Remember, “If you want to leave footprints in the sand of time, wear work shoes.”

I still need an assistant to help print the newsletter each month. If you can only give me two or three hours of you’re time during the weekend following the Post meeting it would be a big help.
Thank you to all the new officers who got me their articles before the 15th of the month deadline and to those of you who did not; please try to make it on time next month.
