Our By-Laws have
been completed and
turned in. The poppy
donations are
flowing in, thank
you one and all. Our
Girls State Tea was
held on May 6th at
the Linda Vista
Post. It was very
nice. A big thanks
to Stella Diaz for
all the decorations,
the tables were
beautiful, and
thanks to all the
other volunteers who
helped Vergi pull it
off.
Joe and Cathy Watt
are working the 4th
of July celebration.
Cathy is a long time
member of the
Auxiliary and will
be coordinating the
food booths. Your
assistance will be
most welcome and
needed from both the
Auxiliary and
Legionnaires. Please
contact Cathy, Joe,
or myself if you
want to volunteer to
get your name on the
list.
Angel Ho & Stella
Diaz put on a great
Cinco de Mayo. The
food was great. Due
to a death in the
family, Stella
couldn’t be there.
Our prayers go out
to Stella and her
family.
Auxiliary
Membership – Irene
Gustafson
Our Auxiliary
membership year has
ended for 2006-2007,
but July starts the
new 2007-2008 year.
Let's get off to a
good start by
renewing early. We
have 2 new members
to welcome. Welcome,
Diana Brokiewicz and
Vicki Feria.
Auxiliary Member,
Edith Hill, won our
50/50 Friday evening
drawing of $80.00 on
May 11th.
Congratulations,
Edith. You don't
need to be present
to win. I'm still
looking for someone
to volunteer to do
the 50/50 drawing on
Friday evenings?
NOTE!! So far, no
one has come forward
to volunteer for
being in charge of
mailing the
bulletins.
A THOUGHT TO
REMEMBER. “The
can-do spirit is the
fuel that makes
things happen.”
Thanks For The
Memories! Have a
Good Day and a nice
forever.
Chaplain – Elda
Jones
By the time you read
this, all of our
Unit positions will
be filled. We
welcome our new
president, Jackie
Lay.
Congratulations.
Once again, I have
been asked to be the
Chaplain. I really
enjoy this position.
I like praying,
visiting, and
sending out cards to
our ill and lonesome
members. I pray for
them daily.
I would like to
thank Irene
Gustafson for doing
the 50-50 on Friday
nights. We have as
of this date
received $375.00 to
go to our different
programs.
God be with each of
you.

who knows what to
say and when to say
it.”

American Legion
Riders
President –
Woody “Gunny” Harris
"Time is only
relevant if you use
it,” and the Riders
have been very
relevant this month!
We have two new
members Mark
Froelich, and Dave
Noland. Both are
Navy Veterans, and
ride respectively a
2007 Harley Davidson
Road Glide and a BMW
1200RT. We welcome
you both to the ALR
Chapter 149. At our
meeting on May 9th,
we held our annual
election of
officers. Re-elected
was Woody "Gunny"
Harris to President,
Chuck "Chuck" Faupel
as VP, Tony "Top"
Desiderio as
Sgt-at-Arms, Joe
"Harley Joe" Watt as
Secretary/Treasurer.
Our new Chaplin is
Art Lubben, and
again returning as
Road Captain is
Jerry "Thud" Craft.
Our Riders dinner
held on 11 May was a
huge success, and
our thanks to Cathy,
and Joe Watt plus
the riders and all
who helped make the
Lasagna dinner a
gastronomic treat.
On Saturday May
12th, we had two
runs. The Downed
Officer Ride held to
raise funds for
Oceanside Police
Officer Dan
Bessant's family
held at the Palomar
Police Academy.
There were 1000 or
more riders who
participated in the
100-mile tour of the
County helping raise
money for the
family. Gang members
assassinated Officer
Bessant earlier this
year. The second Run
was the BFE ride and
rally held in
Fallbrook. There
were about the same
number of bikes at
the BFE run as last
year. We took our
fellow ALR members
from the north
(Palmdale) on a side
trip to the Hideout.
They enjoyed the
ride while their
wives went shopping.
The BFE event was a
success as usual.
The hideout was very
quiet for some
reason. This annual
event supports the
costs of future
education for our
fallen heroes who
have given the
ultimate sacrifice
in the ongoing war
on terror. Two rides
in one day, and your
Rider's Chapter
supported both with
donations and
participation.
Many of our riders
left on Wednesday
May 16th on the “Run
for the Wall.” This
annual event goes
across the USA
culminating in
"Rolling Thunder" On
Memorial Day at the
Vietnam Wall in
Washington DC. We
wish all of the
riders a safe trip,
and God's speed as
well as “Keeping the
shiny side up!”
Several of us
accompanied the
riders to Ontario
for the send off.
Until Next Month,
Semper Fi

The US Senate is
poised to begin
working on a
“comprehensive
immigration reform”
bill -- a measure
that could grant an
amnesty to the
millions of people
who are currently
here illegally. The

adamantly opposes

coming to this

manner other than
stipulated by

Assimilation into
our society by new
citizens remains
important to the
nation’s welfare.
The failure to
properly absorb new
immigrants into its
society divides the
nation and promotes
racial and cultural
bias. Immigration
should be based on a
two-way contract,
that being a
commitment by
America to treat new
immigrants with
respect and provide
them with the rights
and privileges
guaranteed all
citizens by rule of
law. New immigrants
must pledge their
loyalty and
allegiance to this
nation and that
allegiance must take
precedence over and
above any ties they
may have with their
native country.
There can be no
homeland security
until we, as a
nation, takes
control of our
borders. There can
be no fair labor
practices with a
workforce comprised
of illegal workers.
As a nation of laws,
America sends the
wrong message by
forgiving and
rewarding those who
break its laws by
invading our
sovereign nation. We
cannot be secure
when 12 to 20
million illegal
immigrants cross our
peaceful borders.
There is no simple
solution to this
complex challenge.
Contrary to what
some of our elected
officials may
believe, we must put
our own citizens
first. Today,
Americans are paying
a huge price for the
Federal government’s
benevolence and open
door policies that
tolerate illegal
immigration. It is
reflected in our
schools, in our
taxes, at the
workplace and in our
personal feeling of
false national
security. We must
reform education by
offering incentive
for high tech
professions, thus
reducing the
outsourcing of
American jobs.
America should
pursue diplomatic
solutions with
foreign countries
that discourage
illegal entry into
its borders. We
should seek English
language initiatives
and promote good
citizenship through
naturalization
classes for legal
immigrants.
