Upcoming an Ongoing Activities

Meetings are held on the Third Wednesday of the month at 7 PM at  Post 149 in Escondido
The Riders serve Burgers - Hot dogs - Beans - Etc. starting at about 5:00 PM on the Patio Bar-B-Que
prior to the meeting.  C
ome for the food and stay for the meeting.

MONTHLY RIDE
We plan to take a ride at least once a month on the 2nd Sunday
Meet at Post 149 at 8 AM for breakfast and off we will go to somewhere.

May 14 - Run for the Wall. Some of us will make the entire trip, some will
ride into New Mexico and come back by Sunday or Monday.

Sun May 25 Escondido Street Fair we will help man the American Legion Booth,

SPECIAL EVENTS

The American Legion Legacy Run August 17-21, 2008

     The American Legion National Commander Marty Conatser will help kick off the 2008 American Legion Legacy Run from The American Legion National Headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana to the 90th Annual American Legion National Convention in August 2008.  The 1800 mile journey, designed to raise funds for the American Legacy Scholarship program of The American Legion, is one way to show the American Legions deep appreciation for those who paid the ultimate price for freedom.

     Chapter 149 will participate as "Pony Express Riders" to gather funds and depart from San Diego on Wednesday, August 22nd to ride to Reno and meet our brothers riding in from the East.  Along the way, we will stop at other Legion Posts in California and join with Riders from other Chapters as we complete our trip.  For more information, see the links below.

WHO WE ARE

     The purpose of this group is to join together to share our mutual enjoyment of riding while promoting the aims and purposes of the American Legion.  Each group is sponsored by a local American Legion Post and works with local Posts to support charities and promote Veterans issues.
     The American Legion Riders, Chapter 149 was formed in July 2001 as District 22 Chapter (San Diego County) at and sponsored by Post 149 in Escondido.  The American Legion Riders is a group that was first formed in Garden City, Michigan Post 396 in 1994. It consisted of members of the American Legion, Auxiliary or Sons of the Legion who ride motorcycles. 

     The American Legion Riders, Department of California, met in their 1st Annual Convention in Fresno March 31st - April 1, 2007.  The Constitution and By-laws were approved and officers were elected for 2007-2008.  Present to congratulate the Riders were the Commander, Vice-Commander for Women, and Adjutant of  The American Legion, Department of California as well as many other Department and District officers.
      A resolution was presented at the annual Convention of  The American Legion, Department of California in Palm Springs in June that made The Riders an official program of the Department.

     BROTHERS LOST

    

     Larry "Ghost" McCormick passed away on July 15, 2006.
     Larry had served as our Road Captain, Treasurer, and Chaplain.  In addition to being active in the Riders, he was a ride coordinator for the Patriot Guard Riders.

     Larry suffered a heart attack and was hospitalized for a brief period before succumbing to his illness.

     Lawrence Sun-Soul Mosley died peacefully in his sleep at approximately 2 AM on Saturday, February 25, 2006.  In accordance with his Hopi ancestry, his remains were cremated and transported to the Hopi reservation in Arizona for proper disposal.
     Sun-Soul was active as a motorcycle rights activist through Abate Local 6 and served as our Road Captain prior to his passing.
