Ron was born on July 2, 1940 in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. He attended Sauk Rapids Public School through graduation.

Shortly after graduation from high school in 1958, Ron enlisted in the U. S. Navy and attended boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. Upon completion of boot camp, he was sent to naval Air Training School near Milmington, Tennessee. After graduating near the top of his class, Ron was assigned to Miramar Naval Air Station in San Diego.

While in the service, Ron and Nancy were married on May 13, 1961. Nancy is from his home town of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota and they had lived next door to each other most of their lives.

Upon completion of his active duty, Ron decided to stay in California.

Ron has had continuous membership in The American Legion for 28 years, and currently holds a PUFL membership. He became active in 1980 and since that time has held offices on a Post, District, State, and National levels.

Ron was Commander of The Department of California for 2001-2002. He has also held all the offices in the Past Commander's Club and Palomar Voiture 1406, Forty et Eight, honor society of The American Legion.
