COMMANDER | GEORGE CHRISTENSEN

Greetings Legionnaires,

Two big observances in March, the first was the 107th anniversary of the founding of the American Legion in Paris in 1919. The second was National Viet Nam Veterans Day on March 29th paying homage to our Veterans.

Our Auxiliary Unit 149 also hosted also hosted a children’s Easter party on Saturday the 28th that included a visit from the Bunny itself.

It is with sadness that I must note the passing of Jeff Flynt a member of our Sons Squadron. Jeff was a selfless supporter of not only the Sons Squadron, but the Post and the Auxiliary as well. Jeff was a great friend to the Post who will be missed. Mike Franks, past commander, has stepped in as the Sons Adjutant, to help with this transition. As an example of Sons Spirit, they will be putting on a special presentation titled the War in the Pacific in the meeting hall during our Memorial Day ceremonies. Also, in the hall that day will be an American Legion family information booth. The post will be open to the public that day so please invite your neighbors, family, and friends as we pay homage to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom.

Each Sunday a different organization of our Post family including DAV and the Brothers of Six put on a breakfast, usually from 9:00 to 11:00. Please come out and enjoy a great breakfast and camaraderie with like-minded veterans and friends.

The district 22 meeting will be April 12th starting at 9:00. The meeting starts with a great breakfast put on by the Sons of the Legion starting at 8:00. The district meeting is open to all Post, Squadron, Riders, and Auxiliary members. If you have never attended, please join myself and Past Commander Jen Holden.

I want to welcome two appointees to Post positions. Cyndi August is now the Post Adjutant and is quickly working to catch up with new and renewed memberships. Tim Frazier is the Post historian and is already at work on updating our historical displays as well as working on capturing important events from our history. Thank you both for your service.

My last item of business is the upcoming nomination, and election of Post officers. The April meeting starts with the first round of nominations. Please consider seeking a nomination and running for office. Besides Post Commander we will be seeking nominations for other Post positions. At the May meeting we will close nominations and hold the election. I have been asked if I would serve another term as Post Commander. My reply is if nominated I will accept the nomination, and if the membership elects me I will serve. Do not let that influence a decision to run for office and replace me. I serve at the will of the membership.

When I say that serving as Commander is a personal privilege and pleasure that feeling stems from all the great activities and service to veterans, veteran families, and the community our members and sister organizations participate in. I am humbled by the commitment of our comrades to continue to serve

Yours in Service

George T. Christensen
