I think we are all familiar with  the Serenity Prayer:

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.. Amen.  

All of us should be in tune with it because in the military we had to make split second decision and deal with the after effects. We learned very quickly to gain wisdom in these experiences.  We need to remember and use that same wisdom in our civilian dealings.
