COMMANDER | GEORGE CHRISTENSEN

I must apologize; I had to cancel our fundraising dinner for Boy/Girl state and the oratorical contest scheduled for October 24th.  I was unable to get our speakers to commit to that date.  Once the post gets past the holidays I will revisit this opportunity.

November is a time to honor all Veterans, and the Post with the Brothers of Six will be hosting the North County VetFest and parade this year.  We need volunteers to help with the parade, namely parade marshals to help with traffic control.  If you can volunteer, please go to Northcountyvetfest.org and sign up.

Americans never forget. This is what Veterans Day is about. We remember the brave and honorable men and women who have served in our Armed Forces since the founding of our nation. Warriors need advocates, and that is why The American Legion exists. We are here to serve veterans, their families and our communities. Veterans need each other, but, more importantly, our country needs our veterans. The Post namesake J.B. Clark at the beginning of World War I was called back into service, again assigned aboard a destroyer, the USS Waters. Clark died of pneumonia in New York City on January 12, 1919, following an attack of influenza while still on active duty.

Our Post needs our members to work together to serve veterans, their families and our communities.  We need committee Chairs, and members to revitalize our commitment to the four pillars of the Legion: Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth.

In November we also observe Thanksgiving.  This year I have a lot to be thankful for: Our past Commander Jen Holden, Our Adjutant Cody York, Our Vice Commanders Tim Frazier, and Steph Holden.  Our Executive Committee members, Our Rider Chapter, and our Sons of the Legion Squadron.  These committed comrades make it possible for me to meet my responsibilities as Commander.  I am also thankful for each member of American Legion Post 149, American Legion Riders Chapter 149, the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 149, and our Auxiliary Unit 149.  Your support of the Post fills me with pride as the Commander.

Let’s come together as a family and forge ahead to make this the most memorable VetFest ever!

Yours in Service

George Christensen
